Before you hire: compare the full scope

Panel and inverter models, layout, production assumptions, roof/electrical work, interconnection and storage scope. Ask each provider to itemize equipment or materials, labour, extras, permits, exclusions, warranty and responsibility for rebate documents. Confirm eligible equipment, pre-approval and stacking with the program administrator before signing.

Budget separately: project cost → confirmed grant support → remaining cost. Any borrowing is repayable, with its own interest, fees and approval. Unconfirmed rebates are not awarded savings.

What Solar Incentives Exist in Calgary?

Quick answer

Businesses can claim the federal Clean Technology credit: up to 30% of eligible solar and battery cost. For homeowners, the federal Greener Homes Loan closed on Oct 1, 2025, and we have not read a province-wide Alberta solar rebate on an official page. Calgary is on the list of municipalities offering CEIP financing.

  • Businesses

    Federal Clean Technology ITC: up to 30%, or 20% without the labour requirements, for taxable Canadian corporations.

  • Homeowners

    No federal rebate or loan is open, and no province-wide rebate is listed. Savings come from the bill your system offsets.

  • Financing

    CEIP lets owners borrow for energy upgrades and repay through the property tax bill. Confirm solar PV is covered under Calgary's bylaw.

How Does Alberta Credit Solar Exports?

Quick answer

Under Alberta's micro-generation rules, systems under 150 kW are credited monthly for power sent to the grid at your retail rate, or at hourly wholesale prices if you install a suitable meter. Systems of 150 kW and above are credited at the hourly wholesale price. Your retailer sets the agreement.

How to Finance Solar

CEIP lends for energy upgrades in participating municipalities and is repaid on the property tax bill. A loan has to be paid back with interest, so check the rate and fees first.
